Weeeelllll, If you are into Windows, you can hang that one up, unless you are just going for a hardware tech job. Then you better make sure that you are up on finding network glitches and gremlins.
The IBM AS400 is a business server, an antique, actually. The last one I saw was in 1992, although I’m sure that they are still out there. I’m sure that even some banks may still use them.
But they don’t do Windows.
Hope you find a great job at something you enjoy,
Keith
Wow. AS400. That brings back memories. First off, the AS400 is an IBM machine that’s fairly old and can run multiple operating systems. Most, in my experience, run AIX. You can read some good info on them at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS400
Rose D has the right link to tell you ALL you need to know. HOWEVER, the AS/400 is not old. The systems are very much updated.
The AS/400 can do just about EVERYTHING the Micro$oft servers can do (Web server, DNS, DHCP, Print server, Database–Yes, this is a true SQL box, etc), but where the AS/400 beats out the M$ server……..the AS/400 can run hundreds to thousands of SIMULTANEOUS jobs. The AS/400 is a TRUE multithreaded system. what the AS/400 DOES NOT have is a overbloated GUI to slow it down. I was working at one company where there were 3700+++ ACTIVE jobs in the system.
The AS/400 is meant to be a business data processing workhorse and is BY NO MEANS an antique. Read up at wikipedia.
